Following the previous week's win over Overton at Airbus, Halkyn & Flint Mountain took a step away from league action and focused on the Welsh National League Division One Cup, where we made the trip to Llangollen Town. Manager Rob Marshall recalled Alex Jones, Mark Williams and Jimmy McGlone into the starting line up.

The Mountain looked to get straight onto the front foot, but their initial efforts were repelled by the home side, before Llangollen took the lead themselves in the tenth minute. Getting free of the defence, the Llangollen striker cleverly lofted the ball over Ryan Roberts in the Mountain goal and into the net. Just a minute later, they doubled their lead. Poor marking allowed the Llangollen to get inside in space and calmly slid the ball past Roberts.

Just when it looked like the Mountain were on the verge of getting back into the game, Llangollen served another body blow. With the ball down the left, the ball was played into the penalty area, where no less than three Llangollen were unmarked and they had time to choose as they slammed the ball into the net to add their third. Things went from bad to worse when Llangollen got a fourth goal before half time to add to a wretched first half display.

In the second half, Halkyn & Flint Mountain come out fighting, but whilst it did not immediately produce a goal, it did however see Sean Williams shown a straight red card for an altercation with a Llangollen player, reducing the Mountain to ten men. The ten men kept fighting and did grab a goal back. Latching onto a through ball, Jimmy McGlone took the ball around the outrushing goalkeeper, before turning the ball into the net from a tight angle. Ten minutes later, however, Llangollen grabbed a fifth goal and secured their passage into the semi final of the cup.

Next up, Halkyn & Flint Mountain will look to put things right with a tough away trip to Coedpoeth United. It's the first meeting between the two sides this season and with both teams sitting in mid table, it's all to play for.
