Goals from Chris Layne, Jimmy McGlone and Lee Messham see Flint Mountain progress in the Premier Cup

After battling to a deserved point against a youthful GAP Connah's Academy side lest weekend, Flint Mountain turned their attention to the first round of the Premier Cup and a game against Bradley Park. Bradley are yet to win a game this season and the Mountain looked to use the game to get back to winning ways. Once again the squad was needed to be rotated, so Ryan Roberts replaced Lee Evans in goal, whilst George Jones and Scott Forrester returned to the starting line up.

Despite dominating the opening proceedings, Flint Mountain were unable to take the lead, with both Chris Layne and Jimmy McGlone squandering clear chances to score. Bradley Park could not offer much going forwards, but after 25 minutes, took a shock lead. After the ball was passed back to Ryan Roberts, his short pass towards Damon Griffiths went straight to the Bradley striker, after Griffiths had moved away from the ball. Once in his possession, the Bradley striker passed into the back of the net, with Roberts out of position.

Shortly afterwards, Bradley had a golden opportunity to double their lead, but the shot bobbled just wide of the post. The lead did not last long though, as Flint Mountain finally took their chances. From a Mountain set piece, Bradley were unable to clear the ball as it fell to Chris Layne, who lashed the ball into the bottom corner, on the half volley. Just a minute later, Flint Mountain took the lead. Richie Hughes played a through ball, which Bradley could again not deal with, towards Jimmy McGlone. McGlone shrugged off his marker before firing through the goalkeepers legs and into the net.

At half time, Chris Layne was replaced after picking up a knock, with Lee Messham entering the fray. Messham made an instant impact in the second half, scoring Flint Mountain's third goal after just five minutes of the half. Racing onto a lofted ball from McGlone, Messham chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Mountain's domination of the second half, but they were unable to find a way through, as they could not score chance after chance throughout the half. The best chance of the second half come from a penalty from Jimmy McGlone. After being brought down himself, McGlone stepped up but his effort only struck the post, before hitting the post and going out for a corner kick. The rest of the half fizzled out, with Mountain happy to hold on to the win and progression to the next round.

Next up for Flint Mountain is another trip to Wrexham, where Acton will welcome the side in a league clash. Despite being fancied early on in the season, Acton have struggled for form, but the Mountain will have to be on their guard. We hope you can join us.
