This weekend, Mountain returned to league action at Pant Newydd, where the visitors were Hawarden Rangers. Despite claiming the league title in the last season that was cut short by Covid, they have had a mixed start to the season, winning only one of their opening four league games. Mountain were able to welcome Colin Davies and Jack James into the lineup from last week's cup clash with Connah's Quay Town.

The games first real chance come midway through the first half when a Lucas Cruz header hit the cross bar. Mountain continued to press for an opener and with three minutes to go in the first half, they took the lead. Sam Jones took control of the ball in the centre circle. He hit a through ball past the Hawarden defence for Phil Lloyd to chase. Lloyd won the ball, rounded the on-rushing goalkeeper and tapped into the empty net. Just two minutes later, Mountain had their second. Sam Jones chased and hassled a Hawarden defender as he retreated towards his won goal. Jones then nicked the ball from him, before sliding the ball into the bottom corner.

In the second half, both teams looked to add further goals to the game, with Paul Williams going closest with a shot over the bar, but Mountain claimed a vital win and clean sheet.

Next up, Mountain make a trip down the North Wales coast to Bangor to take on Bangor 1876 in the third round of the FAW Amateur Trophy.
