Games between Flint Mountain and Mostyn Dragons always prove to be tight affairs, as this game proved to be no different.
The games first big talking point come on 22 minutes when a ball into the right channel was picked up by striker Tom Jones. He managed to get his cross in but the Mostyn defender could only divert the ball into his own net.
On 31 minutes there came a chance for The Mountain Men to increase their lead. Neat footwork by Tom Jones fooled the Mostyn goalkeeper who could only bring him down to give Mountain a penalty. Stepping up was Phil Marshall, but the Mostyn goalkeeper redeemed himself with a save to his left.
As half time was called, Mountain were left wondering how they were not leading by much more. For the start of the second half Craig Jones was replaced by Dan Eborall.
Mostyn started the second half much quicker and quickly got their reward after just 4 second half minutes. A straight ball through the middle of the defence was played to the Mostyn striker. Mountain captain Stuart Buxton was unable to hold off the striker, as he then cooly slotted home.
That goal awakened Mountain, who retook the lead in the 62nd minute. A long throw in by Andy Pugh into the Mostyn area could only be headed backwards by the Mostyn defender. Arriving unmarked at the back post was midfielder Adam Humphreys, who expertly found the Mostyn net for his second goal in as many games.
With the game approaching its conclusion, Aaron Austin come on to replace Phil Marshall to get the decisive next goal. It was, however, Mostyn who claimed that goal in the final minute, as their pressure on the Mountain defence finally paid off. A Mostyn player fired a speculative shot at Ricky Bennett's goal. The shot cannoned back off the bar and as the Mountain defence looked on, the Mostyn striker nipped in to head home unmarked.
That goal left Mountain dejected as the final whistle went, as it felt like a defeat despite earning a point. Flint Mountain will look to rebound this weekend as we take a trip to face Sychdyn, hoping for the 3 points.
