After a brief break from league action and progression to the next round of the Mike Beech Memorial Trophy last week, Flint Mountain faced a tough trip to Penyffordd to take on last season's double cup winners. The Mountain made two changes to last week's side, with Joey Davies and Rob Rush returning to the starting line up, with Mark Williams unavailable and Alex Millington dropping to the substitutes bench.

Flint Mountain started much the better side and could have been inside a couple of minutes, but Joey Davies could only steer his headed effort wide of the post. Penyffordd had a great chance, but saw the effort fired wide of Kirk Russell's goal, before the Mountain really started turning the screw. The chances kept coming with a few chances going begging, and Liam Mortimer's deflected effort towards goal was somehow pushed over the bar, after a fantastic reflex save by the Penyffordd goalkeeper.

The pressure did eventually take it's toll, as Jack Aitken opened the scoring just after the half hour mark. After stealing the ball from the defender, Aitken's first shot was well saved, but the rebound fell kindly to the young striker and he could easily tap into the empty net. Just minutes later, Penyffordd had a golden opportunity to equalise. Finding themselves with two players at the back post, the shot on goal was well saved by Kirk Russell, who tipped the ball over the crossbar.

In the second half, Flint Mountain continued their attacks on the Penyffordd goal and with an hour gone, won a penalty. Down the right hand side, David Walkiewicz worked the ball into the penalty area. As he looked to beat the defender in his path, the player stuck out a hand and gave the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Sean Williams was tasked with the penalty, despite missing a spot kick against Bellevue earlier in the season. However, he made no mistake on this occasion, sending the ball high into the net.

As the half drew on, Flint Mountain introduced some fresh legs, with Jimmy McGlone, Dean Hughes and Dylan Evans all entering the play. With seventeen minutes remaining, Penyffordd's chances of rescuing at least a point were dashed by Jack Aitken. Aitken raced onto a ball played through the Penyffordd defence and despite their efforts to bring him down, he simply smashed the ball past the on-rushing goalkeeper and into the net. Five minutes later, the hat trick was complete. On the right, Jimmy McGlone played a low pass into the six yard box, which was met by Aitken for a tap in to secure the win.

Next up for Flint Mountain is a first meeting against league newcomers Borras Park Albion. The newly reformed side have struggled so far this season, and Flint Mountain will be looking to continue their recent form with another win.
