After victory over Airbus Academy last weekend lifted Flint Mountain to the summit of the North East Wales League for the first time this season, they looked to cement their place at the top with the visit of second placed Acton to the Pavilion. Both sides come into the game unbeaten in the league, with Acton boasting a 100% record so far. With Lee Messham unavailable, manager Rob Marshall welcomed back Jimmy McGlone in a straight swap, whilst there was also a change in the centre of defence, as Damon Griffiths replaced Joey Davies, who dropped to the substitute's bench.

Flint Mountain got off to a flying start to the game and took the lead after just four minutes. The ball was played down the right towards Jack Aitken. Aitken controlled the ball and drove into the penalty area, before cutting inside his marker and firing a low shot past the Acton goalkeeper at his near post. The pressure continued as the Mountain pressed for a second, which come just before the half hour mark. Again, Jack Aitken was instrumental down the right, as he raced onto a ball played into the channel. Aitken got to the ball and fired a low, dangerous into the area, which found Jimmy McGlone at the back post. McGlone was unable to get a shot away himself, but played the ball into the path of Sean Williams, who made no mistake from close range to double the Mountain advantage.

As the half time whistle approached, Flint Mountain increased their lead further with a third goal. After tenacious pressing won a corner for the Mountain, the initial corner was cut out, but a further cross into the area was met by Damon Griffiths, who headed the ball back across goal. Jimmy McGlone was at the back post and helped the ball onto towards the corner, with the ball striking the post and crossing the line, despite the attempts of the Acton defence to clear on the line.

The second began much like the first, with Flint Mountain pressing for further goals. Acton had their goalkeeper to thank initially, as he made a fantastic double save to deny Jon Edmonds and a further chance from the Mountain striker a couple of minutes later. Jake Williams should have extended the Mountain lead, but he blasted his close range effort over the crossbar.

Acton started to press for a way back into the game and got a goal back, twenty minutes into the half. After winning a free kick, the ball was lofted into the penalty area, where the Acton striker got his head onto the ball and found the back of the net. That goal seemed to galvanise the away side as the looked to back on level terms. With six minutes of the game remaining, Mountain substitute Dylan Evans brought down an Acton player in the penalty area as he bore down on goal. From the resulting penalty, the Acton striker made no mistake as he fired past Kirk Russell. Deep into injury time, Acton thought they had secured a point, but their shot from outside the penalty area whistled past the post, to the relief of the home side. Flint Mountain were then able to hold on and secure a massive three points.

Next week, Flint Mountain take a break from league action as we travel to Caerwys in the first found of the inaugural Mike Beech Memorial Trophy. The Mountain come out on top 4-0 in the recent league game at the Pavilion, so Caerwys will be looking for revenge.
