Fresh from the disappointment of defeat against Cefn Albion in the Queensferry Sports President's Cup final, Flint Mountain were quickly back in action against the same opponents in the final league game of the season. The game would prove to be unimportant to the Mountain, as the previous league game ensured a third placed league finish was secure. Cefn Albion, however, would require just one point from the game to win the North East Wales League. Having two midweek games in quick succession proved to be nightmare for the Mountain, who were missing several players due to working commitments and through injury. That meant that Mountain were faced with playing the game with only a bare starting eleven.
Within the opening minutes of the game, the task was made even harder, as Josh Griffiths, filling in at left back, was forced off the pitch with the re-occurrence of a knee injury sustained in the final on Wednesday. That left the Mountain with only ten players for the remainder of the game. Cefn Albion refused to ease up on the depleted Mountain, and after 25 minutes, opened the scoring after a mix up in the Mountain defence. A second goal quickly followed, and Mountain were relieved to find themselves only two goals down at half time.
As the second half began, Cefn looked to continue on from their first half and bagged a third goal soon into the half. Flint Mountain were not disheartened by this and just a few minutes later, had managed to get themselves back in the game with a goal. Richie Hughes had dropped into midfield for this game and used his position to play an enticing ball through to fellow midfielder Sean Wilkes. Wilkes got through the Cefn defence, before lifting the ball over the stranded Cefn goalkeeper and into the net.
The Mountain resurgence did not come though. Richie Hughes was himself forced off the pitch due to an injury and Cefn took full advantage of this. Before the game was through, the Cefn attack took no mercy as they managed to score a further six goals, leaving Mountain to lick their wounds as they left the field, whilst Cefn celebrated securing the league title at the first attempt.
