Sam Molyneux's wonder strike leads the way as Flint Mountain out four past title rivals at Belle Vue

After a good opening win and three points against a difficult Llay Welfare side on Friday evening, Mountain made a midweek trip to the seaside to face title rivals, Rhyl 1879. Rhyl finished a place above Mountain last season with an even split of results between the teams. Jonny Hill continued deputising for Aden Shannon and he made three changes from Friday, with Sam Jones returning from suspension and Sam Henry given a first start. There was also a debut for Jack Sconce, while new signings Taylor Edwards and Zac Hall were named on the bench.

Rhyl started brightly and had chances early on, but John Danby was on hand to deny them, while other chances were wasted. Midway through the half, Mountain found their opening and what a what to do it. Sam Molyneux cut out a pass on the half way line and hit an audacious shot which lobbed over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net!

Ten minutes later, Mountain had a second. Jack Sconce won the ball on the halfway line before feeding the ball into the path of Mike Hayes. Hayes got through one on one and hit a low shot under the goalkeeper. Just before half time, Rhyl got a goal back. With the ball lofted into the Mountain box, Rowan Brooks headed onto his own post. In the ensuing scramble, Adam Hold was able to get the ball over the line. An incident just beforehand also saw a red card shown to Jonny Hill on the sideline for an apparent grab of a Rhyl player's throat.

In the second half, Mountain continued to press for further goals, but the Rhyl goalkeeper was on hand to deny chances from Jack Sconce and Rowan Brooks. With four minutes to go, Mountain got a vital third goal. Mike Hayes got through on goal again, but turned provider this time. Hayes pulled the ball back to substitute Corey Smart, who slotted the ball into the back of the net. In the dying seconds of injury time, the win was secured with a fourth goal. Taylor Edwards, on as a substitute for his Mountain debut, latched onto a rebound after a Mike Hayes shot was saved by the goalkeeper, firing home for a debut goal.

Next up, Mountain face a weekend trip to Anglesey to face Llangefni Town, who have started well with two wins, on Saturday afternoon.
