Following last week's last minute disappointment of Sychdyn being unable to raise a side, the two clubs were paired again in the second of their league clashes. Mountain reverted to a less familiar 3-5-2 formation for this clash with Rob Rush coming into the side to replace Leon Pickford and slotted in at right wing back and Chris Layne moving over to left wing back. There was also a start for Josh Griffiths in place of Keiron Moore and Lewis Powell returned to the starting line up.
Despite the pitch conditions being poor, Mountain started the game well, passing the ball around and looking for openings. With nine minutes of the game gone, Mountain got a corner. Midfielder Lewis Powell took the corner but only found the Sychdyn goalkeeper. However, the keeper spilled the ball into the area where Mountain captain and player/manager Stuart Buxton was on hand to tap the ball home for his first goal of the season. This goal was the first of three in quick succession. Mountain's leading goalscorer Rich Hughes grabbed the first of his brace two minutes after Buxton had opened the scoring. He was able to finish after Chris Layne, playing at left wing back in this game, put the ball on a plate for him to score. Lewis Powell then grabbed the third, after he was able to swing the ball into the net directly from yet another Mountain corner.
The score remained the same until just before half time, when Mountain added their fourth of the game. Rob Rush, starting at right wing back, cut inside onto his weaker foot before blasting the ball into the top corner to score his first goal for the Mountain.
With Mountain in complete control of the game at half time, Ryan Jones was introduced in place of Rush and Craig Jones returned to his more familiar central midfield role, with Alex Millington moving into the defence. The second half started slower than the first and ten minutes into the half, Stuart Buxton substituted himself and brought on midfielder Keiron Moore, with Lewis Powell moving into the defence.
Chris Layne was next onto the score sheet, he was able to head home from yet another corner, this time delivered by Craig Jones. Then, with 65 minutes played, Keiron Moore skilfully got past his marker before unselfishly passing to striker Danny Griffiths to grab a goal.
Craig Jones again was provider five minutes later, giving the ball to Rich Hughes to complete his brace. Layne then was able to get himself another assist. Working well down the left all game, he crossed into the area where fellow wing back Ryan Jones was on hand to score his first goal of the season.
The rout was completed with nine minutes of the game to go. Rich Hughes now turned provider too, setting up Keiron Moore to slot the ball into the net. Hughes was unlucky not to have secured a hat trick at the death after Danny Griffiths laid the ball to him. Unfortunately, he took too much time on the ball which led to Sychdyn being able to scramble the ball away.
This victory has strengthened Mountain's position in third place in the North East Wales league. Next up is the semi final clash between the Mountain and Aston FC, with the game to be played at Shotton Lane. The two teams met very recently, with Mountain coming out on top with a convincing 6-0 win. They will be for a similar performance, which could see them reach the final of the Queensferry Sports President's Cup for the first time. The other semi final is also being played this coming Saturday, where first meets second, with Aston Park Rangers playing Cefn Albion.
