After defeat against Denbigh Town on Friday evening, Mountain looked to bounce back with a tough trip to Rhyl 1879, recently promoted as champions of the North Wales Coast East Premier Division. Aden Shannon recalled John Danby, Gary Roberts and Richie Foulkes, with Ste Lewis making his first start for the club.
It was an even start to the game with both teams unable to fashion any real chances until the 41st minute when the hosts took the lead. After an initial shot from close range was deflected on to the bar, Rhyl reacted quickest and nodded. In the second half, The Mountain defence was again breached on the hour mark when a cross from the byline looped over John Danby and into the net. Sam Jones would then require medical attention with what was later confirmed to be a broken wrist. The misery was compounded with fifteen minutes to go when Mountain gave away a penalty and Rhyl slotted home to complete the win.
Next up, Mountain turn to the Welsh Cup and a second qualifying round tie with Llannefydd on Saturday afternoon.
