After an impressive opening day win, The second game of the season saw the first away game, with a daunting midweek trek to Cefn Mawr to face league newcomers, Cefn Albion. Cefn had also started the season brightly, also recording a 6-0 win. Mountain were buoyed by the arrival of two new signings, Bryon Taylor and Brendan Roberts, from former rival side Mostyn Dragons. Taylor was handed a start whilst Roberts began the game from the substitutes' bench.
Flint Mountain started the game much the better team, continuing on from last week's win with the same free flowing football, which proved so effective. Despite the positive start to the game, it was Cefn who broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with a well taken strike which flew past Mountain goalkeeper Ricky Bennett.
That goal gave Cefn the confidence to kick on. Mountain were left restricted to long ball tactics, which were easily dealt with by the Cefn defence. Just ten minutes after the first goal, Mountain found themselves two goals down. A break down the left by Cefn was not dealt with, with a simple cross leaving a tap in for Cefn. Leading into half time, new signing Bryon Taylor picked up a yellow card for dissent to the referee.
Into the second half, Mountain had the belief that they could turn the game around. A couple of shots which flew wide seemed to signal that intent. However, Cefn got the decisive third goal in the 56th minute. After a Mountain attack had been stopped, Cefn quickly recycled the ball and knocked the ball onto the right wing. The winger was faced by central defender Rob Rush, but his tackle missed the player and ball and Cefn were away. Cefn were clinical with the finish.
The fourth goal arrived just three minutes later and again could easily have been avoided. A corner from the right hand side was not dealt with and although goalkeeper Bennett saved the original attempt, the rebound was seized upon and quickly found the net.
Mountain tried to change their fortunes with substitutions. Adam Humphreys replaced Alex Millington in central midfield, Ryan Bradley replaced an injured Tom Smith at left back and Brendan Roberts replaced his fellow debutant Byron Taylor in attack. These changes couldn't provide any change to the scoreline, with Mountain being thankful to Bennett in goal to keep the score respectable with a string of fine saves.
Next up for Flint Mountain is a local derby game against Connah's Quay Tigers, hoping to grab some momentum against the rivals who have strengthened significantly recently
