Fresh from one challenging clash at The New Saints at the weekend, Mountain returned home to the Essity Stadium, where fellow tenants and JD Welsh Cup holders Connah's Quay Nomads were the opponents in another pre-season game for the Mountain. Mountain put out a strong team as they prepare for their European adventure next week.
The first half was evenly matched, as Mountain defended well to repel the Nomads attacks, while also coming close on a couple of occasions. In the second half, Nomads took the lead a minute into the half and found the net a further three times to give themselves a commanding lead. Mountain did not quit and Jack Sconce pulled a goal back with a superb curling effort from the edge of the box. Shortly afterwards, Jack Parry went through on goal, his shot was well saved but the Nomads defender could not clear and turned the ball into his own net.
Just a minute later, Jack Sconce picked up the ball from a Jack Parry backheel and from 45 yards, hit an outrageous lob over the goalkeeper. With time running out, Mountain were also awarded a penalty but Jack Parry saw his spot kick well saved, before also seeing a last minute equaliser chalked off for offside. An entertaining pre-season game saw plenty of minutes for players as we gear up for life in the JD Cymru North next season.
Thanks you for the Nomads for the game and the best of luck to them in Europe and for the season ahead.
Next up for the Mountain is a Friday evening clash with Neston Nomads at the Essity Stadium.
