After a disappointing defeat in midweek, culminating in Mountain crashing out of the NEWFA Challenge Cup to Greenfield, we looked to bounce back and what better way than making up for another disappointing game with a clash against Connah's Quay Town in the FAW Amateur Trophy second round. Mountain were on the receiving end of a penalty defeat to Town just last month at Pant Newydd in the Welsh Cup and looked to make amends at Dock Road this time around.

It was Town who had the first major chances of the game, taking advantage of a makeshift Mountain defence. However, Danny Stanton was on hand to make two great saves within a couple of minutes of each other to keep the score level. On the half hour mark, Mountain struck to take the lead. Phil Lloyd fed the ball down the left to his strike partner Sam Jones. Jones beat his marker for pace, opened up his body and curled a wonderful shot past the goalkeeper. Late in the half, Jones ran through one on one, but this time the keeper made a good save to deny him.

In the second half, Town had lots of possession but were not finding a way through Mountain. At the other end, Sam Jones had chances to increase the lead, but his efforts were thwarted by the Town keeper who made save after save. With five minutes to go, Town were level from the spot. A shot fired into the penalty area struck the arm of Pete Martin and the referee pointed to the spot. Town stepped up and sent Danny Stanton the wrong way, sending the game to another penalty shootout between the teams.

In the shootout, Danny Stanton made two fine saves, while one Town player fired over the bar. For Mountain three penalties were enough to send them through.
