It's been almost six months since Mountain's last action in a friendly prior to the abandoned season last year, but finally we returned to the pitch in the start of our pre-season campaign ahead of the new 2021/22 season. Our opponents and hosts were Borras Park Albion, who had already taken part in two friendlies.
The Mountain started quickly and were ahead after just three minutes. After Danny Stanton collected a free kick flown into his area, the ball was played out quickly from the back. A ball forward found Phil Lloyd one on one with the Borras goalkeeper and he lifted the bouncing ball him and into the net. It was hen the turn of Sean Williams to get in on the act. A cross into the box found Paul Williams but he couldn't quite connect. when it looked like the chance might be gone, Williams recovered and played the across the box to Sean Williams, who fired home from close range to double the lead. On the half hour mark, Williams added his second, nodding home a cross from Jord Beck from a couple of yards out. Just before half time, Phil Lloyd had his second. Getting into the penalty area, he first took on his man, before shifting the ball out of his feet and rifling a shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper no chance.
In the second half, The Mountain kept up their pressure on the Borras goal and had a fifth shortly afterwards. From a free kick, Jord Beck floated a ball towards the back post, where Mark Williams heads in. Just after the hour mark, Mountain had their sixth and Phil Loyd had his hat-trick. Breaking into the box, Paul Williams unselfishly passed to Lloyd, who rounded the out -stretched goalkeeper and tapped into the empty net. Pete Martin then got in on the act, himself heading home a floated free kick at the back post. It was then the turn of Sean Williams to complete his hat-trick. After an effort was hit against the post, the ball bounced up in front of Williams, who was able to volley past the keeper.
Borras kept going and got their reward with a consolation goal twelve minutes from time. After evading a couple of Mountain players, the Borras striker smashing a shot that flew past Danny Stanton, leaving him no chance.
we thank Borras for the game and for hosting us. Next up for The Mountain is a trip to fellow North East Wales Premier Division side, Lex, as we continue our preparations for the new season.
