Given the scoreline, it would be assumed that The Mountain were no match for their North West Counties League opponents, but there were plenty of positives to take as Halkyn & Flint Mountain were beaten by the English side. After Golcar had taken a two goal lead in the first half, Sean Williams had a great opportunity to get a goal back. With Marc Gunther to his right ready to tap into the net, Sean Williams chose to take the shot on himself, which was well saved. Golcar counter-attacked, taking the ball up the other end of the pitch and grabbing a third. The Mountain were having plenty of chances, but could not find a way past the goalkeeper.
Things looked bleak in the second half when Golcar rifled a superb free kick past stand in goalkeeper Karl Leighton. Mountain continued to work hard and were eventually rewarded when Marc Gunther rounded the goalkeeper and stroked home. In the end, however, clinical finishing proved to be the decider, but The Mountain will not be disheartened after a decent pre-season display.
Next up, Halkyn & Flint Mountain welcome Holywell Town Reserves to Pant Newydd on Tuesday evening, with kick off 19:00.
