It was a tale of two halves in this midweek pre season game, as a depleted Flint Mountain made the trip to Rhyl Rovers, of the Vale of Clwyd League. Despite a fantastic penalty save from goalkeeper Ricky Bennett early on, Flint Mountain fell behind due to a defensive error. A second defensive error swiftly followed, allowing Rhyl to double their lead.
The Flint Mountain players refused to admit defeat and as the second half went by, the confidence began to grow. The comeback was started by Jimmy McGlone, who fired a right-footed effort into the far corner of the net, after a scramble in the penalty area. Flint Mountain captain Damon Griffiths then got the side back on level terms, as he directed a corner past the goalkeeper. With time running out, and with Flint Mountain piling on the pressure, the decisive third goal arrived, courtesy of Keiran Farr. Sean Wilkes' expert backheel into the path of Farr, allowed him to calmly slide the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net. The final goal come just a couple of minutes before the end of the game, as Dean Hughes rose high to head a corner into the net.
Thank you to Rhyl Rovers for hosting us and we wish them well for the season ahead. Next up for Flint Mountain is a Welsh Alliance League test, as Meliden provide the opposition, with kick off at 14:30.
