The torrential downpours throughout the afternoon did nothing to dampen the spirits of the Flint Mountain players, as they strolled to a convincing victory over Vale of Clwyd league side, Abergele. Despite Abergele having much of the opening play, it was Flint Mountain who opened the scoring midway through the first half. From a free kick close to the corner flag, Sean Wilkes got free from his marker and planted his header past the Abergele goalkeeper. With just a few minutes of the half remaining, the Mountain doubled their lead thanks to Dylan Roberts. Tommy O'neil did not give up a ball back to the Abergele goalkeeper, forcing him to only find Roberts unmarked, who made no mistake by lofting the ball into the empty net from 25 yards.
In the second half, Jack Aitken played a sensational ball through to Marc Gunther, who composed himself before firing home through the goalkeeper's legs. Mark Hughes then extended the lead, after racing onto a through ball and calmly sliding the ball into the bottom corner. It was not over as Tommy O'Neil then grabbed a late brace to add gloss to the performance.
Thank you to Abergele for hosting us, and good luck for the season ahead.
Next up for Flint Mountain is the beginning of the North East Wales League season, on Tuesday evening. Visiting the Northop Hall Pavilion first, since the move to LLys Ben will be Halkyn United. The Mountain will be looking to build upon a confidence building pre season campaign with the early scalp of Halkyn. Kick off at the Northop Hall Pavilion on Tuesday evening is 18:30.
