With Thursday's pre season victory still fresh in the bodies and minds of the Flint Mountain players, attention quickly turned towards the test of Saturday's opponents, Meliden, of the Welsh Alliance League.
Flint Mountain took the lead mid way through the first half, as Dylan Roberts persistence paid off, nicking the ball from the last defender. Once past the defender and through on goal, Roberts calmed himself, before coolly sliding the ball past the Meliden goalkeeper. In the second half, Marc Gunther kept up his record of scoring in all of his pre season appearances so far. Latching on to a lovely ball forward, Gunther controlled the ball and then beat his man for pace. His first effort was saved, but the ball fell back to Gunther, who then slotted the rebound into the net.
Meliden's response was instant, as from the kick off they forced a save from stand-in goalkeeper Karl Leighton. From the resulting corner, the Meliden player was left unmarked as he met the corner with a headed effort into the Mountain net. Despite a valiant effort from Meliden, who also had an effort off the post, Flint Mountain made sure of the win in the closing stages of the game. From a throw in, a small scramble eventually led to Joe Powell stabbing the ball home from merely a yard out.
Thank you to Meliden for hosting us, and good luck for the season ahead. Next up for Flint Mountain is a final pre season friendly of this season, as Abergele FC provide the opposition.
