Mountain End Pre Season With Draw

Robert Moore8 Aug 2015 - 20:36

Flint Mountain's pre season campaign comes to an end with an entertaining draw against Llansannan

After the disappointing defeat on Tuesday evening, Mountain made the long trip to face Vale of Clwyd League side Llansannan. Mountain were able to call upon a few more players, giving them the opportunity to try a new formation in this game.

Mountain started the game well, utilising the wing backs employed in this game to get forward and trouble a shaky Llansannan back line. After Richie Hughes had gone close, flashing a shot just wide of the post, it was Llansannan who took the lead. Midfielder Alex Millington tried to clear a long ball forward, but his he could head the ball backwards. The ball flew over the head of Mountain goalkeeper Ricky Bennett and into the net, despite his best efforts to save it.

Almost immediately, Mountain were level. Starting from the back, a good passage of play involving several Mountain players allowed wing back Shane Owens to get into the penalty area. His shot was scuffed, but it wrong footed the goalkeeper and rolled into the net. Mountain continued their good play right up to half time and were rightly happy with the display.

At half time, Mountain made use of the relaxed substitution rules and made a couple of changes. Straight from the off, Llansannan were almost back into the game, with Ricky Bennett forced to make a good save at the feet of the Llansannan striker. A couple of minutes later, Llansannan retook the lead. Mountain did not stop a cross coming in from the right hand side, and the Llansannan striker rose high unchallenged, to head into the corner.

It took a while for Mountain regain their rhythm from the first half, but once they got going to began to threaten again, putting Llansannan under almost constant pressure. Despite this, the keeper was not tested, with several shots going high or wide of the Llansannan goal. With time running out, Mountain made further changes, re-introducing Keiron Moore and Tom Smith to the side. Moore made an instant impact, levelling the score almost immediately after coming on. Moore ran onto a through ball, before composing himself and slotting the ball home, even with the goalkeeper getting a hand on the ball. Just two minutes later, Moore was again involved as Mountain striker Richie Hughes played a neat one two ball with him. Once he received the ball back, Hughes' shot to the near post somehow found the net, giving Mountain a late lead.

The lead was short lived though. Llansannan were able to get a goal just a minute from time to finally level the match. Mountain will hopefully be able to take the positives from this game into the first league game of the season on Tuesday evening, as they face last year's runners up, Aston Park Rangers.
